All the baseline speeds have incresed on all the HughesNet Plans as of July 1st, 08. For instance the HughesNet Home Plan usedto be 700Kbps down, but now its 1000Kbps down and the good news is the price did not increase.
At the upper tier plans you can get up to 3000Kbps down.
This will be a tough one for wildblue with their base plan onlu coming in at 512Kbps down.

With the release of the new Ka-band platform under the consumer division the new HughesNet Dish (Antenna) has now been standardized to the the .74 meter Dish (Antenna) acroos the borad. This replaces the old .98 mter dish that was normally reserved for the small business offerings.

Well as of July 1st, 08 there is not much of a comaprison. This tells it all.
HughesNet Home Plan 1000Kbps/ Down at 59.99/monthly
Wildlue Home Plan 512Kbps/Down at 49.99/monthly
HughesNet is virtually twice the speed for only 10.00 more/monthly

Look to June 08 for the new HughesNet ka band platform to be rolled out to the consumer. For obvious reasons there is not a lot of detail available yet how this will competitively effect current pricing. It would be reasonable to assume that it will be more cost competitive. As a consumer evaluating satellite internet access, capacity is the main benefit of consideration here. This satellite will be equivalent to several other current satellites combined. Bandwidth is king in broadband internet so plan for HughesNet Spaceway 3
